Don’t Be Fooled! 5 Myths About Diabetes You Need to Stop Believing Right Now

There have been myths about diabetes which have been flying around for a while, These are some of those myths.

Diabetes is a deadly disease, no doubt. And we should do all that we can to escape its vicious grips.

However, because it is such a chronic and debilitating disease, many myths surround diabetes, such that it is easy to lose sight of the truth concerning this avoidable disease.

What are these myths, and what is the truth? Here are five diabetes myths you need to stop believing.

• Myth 1: All overweight people eventually develop type-2 diabetes.

Fact: This is false. It’s easy to assume overweight people are doing themselves a disservice that will inevitably lead to diabetes. You’re certainly not doing yourself any favours by maintaining an unhealthy weight, but the claim that all overweight people will eventually develop type-2 diabetes is inaccurate. According to the American Diabetes Association, “Most overweight people never develop type-2 diabetes, and many people with type-2 diabetes are at a normal weight or only moderately overweight.”

Something to consider if you’re freaking out over a slight increase in your weight.

• Myth 2: Type-1 diabetes is caused by a poor diet

Fact: Once again, this is false. The ADA reports that type-1 diabetes, which is less common, is caused by genetics and unknown factors. It’s also typically diagnosed in children and young adults. Because it only affects five per cent of the people who have diabetes, type-1 can often be misunderstood. A person with type-1 diabetes is unable to produce insulin, which isn’t a result of lifestyle factors. Those with type-2 diabetes, on the other hand, develop a resistance to insulin.

• Myth 3: Being overweight is the only risk factor for type-2 diabetes

Fact: Being overweight, having an unhealthy diet, and a lack of physical activity certainly do not help you in staving off diabetes;but there are other factors that also play a role. According to the International Diabetes Federation, family history, increasing age, high blood pressure, ethnicity, impaired glucose tolerance, history of gestational diabetes, and poor nutrition during pregnancy can all make a difference. As you can see, there are genetic and environmental factors that may contribute to a person’s predisposition to developing type-2 diabetes. This all means you really should maintain regular visits with your doctor.

• Myth 4: Once you are pre-diabetic, you will get diabetes.

Fact: While pre-diabetes is, obviously, a precursor to diabetes, it’s not a death sentence. Just because you have pre-diabetes doesn’t mean you’ll continue in a downward spiral. If detected early enough, treatment can return blood glucose levels to the normal range. The ADA says your risk for type-2 diabetes can be lowered by 58 per cent if you lose seven per cent of your body weight and exercise moderately for 30 minutes a day, five days a week.

• Myth 5: Left untreated, only your blood sugar is affected.

Fact: To assume that type-2 diabetes complications stop at blood sugar is a dangerous mindset. When someone has type-2 diabetes, their body isn’t able to produce enough insulin to keep blood glucose levels normal. When this happens, glucose isn’t able to move into the cells like it’s supposed to, so it builds up in the blood.

According to the ADA, this build-up can result in your cells being starved for energy, and, over time, may hurt your eyes, kidneys, nerves, or heart. It’s important to discuss the state of your health with your doctor if you are pre-diabetic or have any type of diabetes. Lifestyle changes, medication, or insulin injections may be a necessary part of your treatment plan.

Revealed: 5 Easy Ways to Cut an Onions Without Crying…It Works Like Magic

Many people cannot cut an onions without shedding tears and the reason is very simple and obvious. You will learn how not to cry while cutting onions.

*Photo used for illustrative purpose*

Many people have been wondering what really causes one to cry while slicing onions. Well, according to Sun UK, the reason is very simpl.

As we chop up an onion, it releases enzymes that act as catalysts for us weeping over your kitchen counter.

When these molecules are released they form a type of acid which then reacts with the air – the resulting gas hits your eye, reacting with the water there to create sulphuric acid, which burns.

This leads to more tears as your eyes tries to get rid of the stinging.

How can you chop and onion without crying?

There are a few tips and tricks you can employ to prevent sobbing your eyes out every time you need to cook up an onion-filled dish.

1. Light a candle

The idea is that the flame will get rid of some of the fumes which cause the gas.

Without them, you shouldn’t have as much of a problem.

2. Freeze it first

You need to pop the onion in the freezer about 15 minutes before you want to chop it.

The cold is supposed to stop it releasing the molecules which cause all the problems.

Slicing an onion in water works too, again because it stops the vapour hitting your eyes.

3. Soak it

Popping an onion in water once it’s peeled but not cut also helps.

It apparently draws out the compounds, meaning there aren’t as many to react with your eyes.

4. Use a spoon

Pop a spoon in your mouth while you cut your onion and you won’t cry.

It works because the chemicals bind to the metal of the spoon before they can get to your eyes, so you don’t cry.

5. Get chewing

Some people suggest putting a bit of bread in your mouth, with part of it hanging out.

This is supposed to catch some of the chemicals before they reach your eyes.

Chewing gum also helps as it makes you breathe through your mouth, which disperses the irritants more. That means less get to your eyes, so you won’t cry.

Like this? Then find out why your salad drawer is the deadliest place in your kitchen here, and how to make the perfect boiled egg.

What chemical in onions makes your eyes burn?

The exact chemical that makes our eyes burn so much when we chop up onions is syn-propanethial-S-oxide.

This volatile sulphur compound wafts towards your eyes where it then forms sulphuric acid.

The sulphuric acid then causes that dreaded burning sensation and resulting tears.

10 Surprising Things That Can Kill Your S*x Drive

These 10 things listed below might be silently killing your s*x drive without you ever knowing.

Men with higher sugar level are likely to experience erectile dysfunction

According to HealthFitnessRevolution, here are some things to eliminate in order to get your hormones back on track and rev up your s*x drive. So cut these s*x-drive killers out of your life.

1. Soda: We’ve told you the health problems by sodas before and why you should eliminate them completely. In case you needed another reason: some sodas, like Mountain Dew, list brominated vegetable oil—or BVO—as an ingredient. Bromine products are linked to male infertility, impotence, and decreased libido. Another libido killer is aspartame, the artificial sweetener found in diet sodas, which is notorious for causing both headaches and low libido in both men and women.

2. Store Receipts: Approximately 40% of receipts today are coated with the hormone-disrupting chemical bisphenol A (BPA), which has been linked to fertility problems and heart disease. A recent study published in the journal Fertility and Sterility discovered that men with higher BPA levels in their urine experienced low sperm counts and lower sperm quality than men with lower levels. We recommend turning down unnecessary receipts and also avoiding canned foods and foods in certain plastics, which also contain high levels of BPA.

3. Microwaveable Popcorn: Non-stick chemicals that are used in the inner lining of microwave popcorn bags and in non-stick pots and pans often contain perfluoroalkyl acids which are linked to testicular tumors, lack of s*x drive, and male infertility, even in small doses. Opt for cooking cast iron pans and pop corn in a brown bag instead.

4. Sugar: A 2009 study published in the Journal of $exual Medicine found that men with normal blood sugar levels enjoyed better $exual health. Studying about 800 men with type 2 diabetes, researchers compared blood sugar levels to $exual health questionnaires. Men with higher blood sugar were more likely to report erectile dysfunction more often. Another reason to cut out sugar!

5. Birth Control: These contraceptives have the ability to alter a woman’s testosterone production by putting the ovaries to sleep. The fake estrogen in the pill renders the natural testosterone the body can produce useless and female libido decreased.

6. Pesticides: Atrazine, a common weed-killing chemical, can drastically suppress a man’s s*x drive. Scientists were tipped off to this fact when they noticed that male frogs exposed to trace levels of the chemical suffered a decrease in male s*x hormones and fertility. Worse yet, about 10 percent of the frogs actually turned into females. Many other pesticides are considered to be hormone disruptors, so eat organic as much as you can.

7. Tonic Water: It’s main ingredient, quinine, which has shown to lower testosterone levels according to research conducted by Germany’s Institute of Reproductive Medicine.

8. Fish: Pay close attention to the source of the fish. Industrial waste chemicals, such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), banned in the U.S., can mimic natural hormones, causing cancer in adults, and adverse health and reproductive effects in both human and wildlife offspring, according to a 2013 study. Although they were banned in the U.S. in 1979, PCBs have remained in the environment for decades, possibly erasing s*x drive in women. Certain other countries where fish is imported from does not have this same ban and can end up in the fish we are consuming.

9. Fried Foods: The trans-fat found in all fried foods is known to dramatically decrease the male and female libido. The adverse effects of consuming these trans fatty acids includes an increase in the amount of abnormal sperm production for men and interferes with gestation in women. Time to put the fries down!

10. Stress: Stress greatly affects s*x drive in both men and women, but even more so in women. Chronic stress can throw a woman’s hormones off and kill $exual desire. During high-stress times, the female body actually converts progesterone, the precursor molecule to testosterone, into the body’s “stress hormone,” cortisol, instead of s*x hormones that make you crave intimacy. A great remedy to stress is physical fitness including cardio, strength training, and yoga!

Here’s How To Stay Strong After A Breakup

1. “You can’t control whether or not the other person misses you or changes their mind and wants you again. But you can at least control how you spend your time and what you do with your life. The more you work hard to create a life outside of them, the happier you’ll someday be that you are no longer with them.”

2. “Every time you remember something great about them and you start to miss them, counter it with something about them that really used to frustrate you or upset you. There will be way more stuff than you expect.”

3. “Start exercising. It won’t make your heart and brain less depressed but it will make your body look damn good. And that can be the kicking off point that you need to help your mind and heart.”

4. “You seriously have to take it one day at a time. Listen to that phrase and actually take it seriously, it’s a cliche but it works. Don’t try to get over them today, just get through today.”

5. “It’s better that you ended things now when clearly things weren’t working between you two, then to get too scared to break up and end up getting married out of fear and then just getting divorced like six years from now.”

6. “Everything is more ‘rosy retrospection’ and everything seems way more romantic when you look at the relationship after it’s already ended. Then, you only remember the good parts. So try to remember the hard and bad parts about it, cuz the bad parts were there too.”

7. “Even though you are sad, you are still a thousand times lighter without her toxic presence in your life.”

8. “You can’t make them miss you, but you can definitely make them realize they gave up something great if you take 100% of your sadness and channel that energy into your friends, your career, your goals, etc.”

9. “You have to keep getting up and living. It doesn’t mean you cannot also be sad and depressed. But just do both at the same time. Eventually, you’ll stop trying and it will just become second nature and then day by day, you’ll just be living more and being sad less.”

Ladies: 5 Signs You Are Wearing The Wrong Bra Size

Your bra is one of the most important piece in your wardrobe. Even studies revealed that a single bra is worn for approximately 16 hours each day, so it is important to be comfortable with your bra throught the day and at all times.

The right bra size makes you feel more confident and comfortable and experts noted that it is best for your B.reast health. Signs of incorrectly fitted bras include pain, red marks, shoulders or neck pain. Here are few other signs to let you know that you are wearing the wrong bra:

Your bra is not your size if your back or neck hurts after removing the piece. You may not be getting the right support from your bra because it is the wrong size.

If you notice that the band of your bra is sliding up or after wearing your clothes, your B.reasts keeps coming out/spillover or running over from the edge or cup of the bra. Ditch the bra because they might have stretched out in washing process.

You deliberately avoid the first, second hook for the last hook. If you are wearing the perfect size, the middle hook should be the best for you. Then after few months, when your bra stretches over time, you can then tighten it by using the first hook.

Some ladies will put on their bra as if they are backing a baby. You will see the band of their bra riding up in their back. Your band should fit firmly and horizontally across your back. If it is riding up in the back, then there is a problem.

After pulling your that bra, the straps must not leave marks on your skin. It you notice some of the things listed above after wearing any of your bra, then that bra is dead.

To get the best out of your bra, invest in good quality bra, don’t wear same bra for two or more days and wash properly.

Bewarned: Here Are 5 Social Media Scams That Target Your Bank Account

Scammers are everywhere looking for an opportunity to defraud people of their hard-earned money and you should not fall victim.

*Photo used for illustrative purpose*

Are you eager to prevent yourself from being scammed by online fraudsters who target social media users? Here are 5 things to do to safeguard your bank account according to WellsFargo.

Scam #1: Social media phishing

A fraudulent social media account impersonates a reputable company by using the company’s name and logo. These accounts may link to fraudulent websites that request your sensitive information.

Scammers may try to convince victims to provide their information by linking to sites that appear legitimate, but whose URLs differ slightly from the real sites, such as a misspelled website name or another domain name. Once you enter your credentials on this site, the scammers can access your username and password. The links may also contain instructions to “like” a page, share a link, and complete a survey, through which scammers earn money every time a questionnaire is completed.

Scam #2: Card cracking

In this scenario, scammers use social media to post opportunities to make quick and easy money. They ask for your debit card and PIN and/or mobile banking username and password to deposit a fake check into your account. They may ask you to report your card lost or stolen or that your credentials have been compromised in order to seek reimbursement from the bank. In exchange, scammers promise you a portion of the funds you deposit.

After gaining access to your account, scammers can transfer funds or deposit phony checks into your account and quickly make withdrawals before your bank identifies the checks as illegitimate.

Not only are you robbed of your money, but you might also face hefty fines and criminal charges because your participation in this scheme makes you a co-conspirator.

Scam #3: Online dating

Scammers have been known to create fake social media accounts and use the promise of love to trick naive victims into sending them money. They may use a fictional name or falsely assume the identities of aid workers, military personnel, or other professionals working abroad.

“Scammers have been known to create fake social media accounts and use the promise of love to trick naïve victims into sending them money.”

Once they have gained your trust, they may claim to need funds for an emergency or other hardship and convince you to provide your account information or wire money before disappearing.

Some telltale signs of this scam include poor or vague communication, flowery language, a small number of Facebook pictures and posts, or a Twitter account with just a few tweets.

#4: Clickjacking

In clickjacking, scammers try to trick you into clicking on a malicious link by hiding it under another hyperlink you want to click on. This can result in unknowingly downloading malware or revealing sensitive information.

For example, scammers may claim to be from a legitimate business, offering a coupon or special deal. Here is how this scam works:

You click on a seemingly harmless link on social media. The link directs you to a survey page asking for personal or account information. You complete the survey, not realising that sensitive information is being shared with the scammer.

If you fall for a clickjacking scam, you may disclose sensitive information that can put you at risk for fraud or identity theft.

#5: Angler phishing

It is the latest version of social media phishing. It’s called “Angler phishing” and, yes, the name is from the scary deep-sea fish in the movie,‘Finding Nemo’. It refers to a clever new scam in which crooks impersonate the social media teams of banks and retailers in order to trick consumers into disclosing sensitive personal information.

According to www.fortune.com, the scam started popping up last year and it works like this: A consumer has a question for a bank or a retailer but instead of using phone or email, they turn to Twitter to ask for help. Customers know these companies have special teams to watch social media, so they are not surprised when they get a response. Unfortunately, this response may come from a cyber-crook instead of the bank or company.

The crooks use realistic-looking social media accounts and, once the consumer responds, they quickly direct them to a fake website. The fake website is designed to look exactly like a real bank or retail site, prompting the consumer to enter information such as his or her login and password.

You get the idea. Both the social media agent and the website feel so real that the customer discloses all sorts of information without realising they’re doing it. As a final kicker, once the consumer has entered all that data, the crooks will often say “thank you” and redirect the victim back to the real company website.

“The bad guys put it all together; a social media account, the website, even fake email accounts, to create a whole environment,” says Devin Redmond, a VP at Proofpoint, a firm that protects companies against email and social fraud scams.

In terms of damage, the con artists will typically use the information to go after customers’ bank accounts directly.

Redmond says the angler phishing scam is mostly found on Twitter, but is now also turning up on Facebook and Instagram, where brands deploy social media teams to engage with consumers. He says the new con is proving effective because consumers have come to expect a response from the brands on social media, and because the crooks produce fake accounts that look so realistic.

10 Signs You’re Not In Love, You’re Just Emotionally Dependent

Love is one of those things that almost every person on this planet is searching for. Some of us want it so badly that we get swept up in the initial stages of romance, blinded by feelings of lust, affection, and desire.

There’s no better feeling in this world than finding a person who loves you just as much as you love them.

But sometimes we idealize people rather than letting them just be themselves. And this is because we’re searching for our own validation, rather than a genuine, loving bond.

Sometimes what we think is love is really just someone being emotionally dependent. We’ve come to rely on another person for our own satisfaction and self-worth.

Listed below are ten signs that your relationship might not be as healthy for you as you think it is. You may be emotionally dependent.

1. You feel extreme jealousy whenever your partner spends their time with someone other than yourself.

2. You and your partner have stopped doing the things that you used to do without one another or have completely removed yourselves from other relationships that were important to you.

3. You have a constant worry that your partner is going to just up and leave you for someone else.

You notice that you are possessive of him or her when there are other people around them.

4. You’re always ready to bail on whatever plans you’ve made in order to spend time with your significant other.

5. You value your partner’s validation way more than your own validation.

6. You care less about who your partner really is on the inside than you do about how well they maintain appearances in front of friends and family.

7. You think that you can transform your significant other into the partner you’ve always wanted.

8. You enjoy having a bit of control over your partner, and become upset and distant when they don’t do as you wish.

9. You genuinely feel as though you would never be able to recover or move on in life if your partner left you or passed away.

10. A large portion of your self-worth is derived from your significant other’s approval, affection and attention.

Care About Your Money? Here Are Five Most Common ATM Scams and How to Avoid Falling Victim

If you really care about your money and do not want to fall victim to ATM Fraudsters, then read how to safeguard yourself.

A customer at the atm booth (File booth)

Do you know your ATM card is one of the quickest ways a thief can commit identity theft – and wipe out your bank account!  According to allclearid, here are some of the most common types of ATM scams you must avoid falling victim to.

1. Skimmer – This scam involves a device that is installed into an ATM that can read your account information including your account number, PIN and balance. Usually these skimmers can hold up to 200 accounts worth of information at a time.

2. Shoulder Surfing – This low-tech scam involves observation techniques or some crafty tactics. Some thieves install a fake keypad on top of a real one to record account information and pin numbers. To capture more useable data to access someone’s account, they will also install a camera to record all other information – like your card number.

3. Cash Trapping – A crook installs something to block the cash from dispensing out of an ATM machine. A customer will then go inside the bank for help and will return to find the cash stolen by a thief.

4. “Lebanese Loop”– This type of financial identity theft is one of the simplest and becoming increasingly common. An identity thief installs a metal or plastic strip into the ATM card slot. The card goes in normally and the transaction to withdraw money moves along as it should. However, once it is complete and the card tries to eject, the loop prevents it from ejecting and the cash is not dispensed. As in the cash trapping scam, the customer walks into the bank to complain, while the thief removes the loop and has access to your bank account and cash.

5. Phishing – An oldie but goodie that has had a resurgence this year with millions of lost email addresses.  Phishing for your bank information occurs when a scammer sends an e-mail to a customer pretending to be a bank representative requesting you to update account information. The thief then uses this information to replicate an ATM card or withdraw money from a customer account via online banking.

What you can do: The best way to prevent ATM fraud is to monitor your bank accounts and only use ATMs that have security cameras. It is also important that you never leave your card in an ATM, even if it is only to inform the bank of a problem. Instead, you should call the bank and tell them you are at the ATM and there is a problem with your card. This will keep your account safe and identity protected until help comes to you.
